Nutritional Values of Starbucks Drinks
Since its opening in Seattle in 1971, Starbucks has served up millions of coffee drinks in a wide variety of flavors. Often these drinks contain high calorie and sugar counts where you may not expect it. In fact, some drinks from Starbucks contain calorie contents equivalent to the recommended amount for an entire meal, and sugar content beyond the recommended amount for an entire day.

The bulk of Starbucks' brewed grande coffees contain approximately 5 calories and about 330mg of caffeine. These drinks generally do not contain any other nutrients besides a negligible amount of sodium that is less than one percent of the daily value. The brewed coffees served with milk contain a greater amount of calories. The calories depend on the type of milk you choose for your drink, and are between 70 calories for nonfat milk and 130 calories for whole milk. These drinks also contain a higher amount of sugar than the plain brewed coffees, and provide some calcium and protein.
Espresso Drinks
Some of the popular espresso drinks at Starbucks include the caffe Americano, caffe latte, cappuccino, caramel macciato, espresso and espresso con panna. Most of these drinks can be made with a choice of 2 percent milk, whole milk, soy milk, or nonfat milk. The cafe grande Americano contains 15 calories in a grande, or 16 oz. drink. It contains no fat, cholesterol, fiber or sugar. The grande caffe latte made with 2 percent milk contains 190 calories, and 7g of fat, and 4.5g of saturated fat. The drink contains 17g of sugar, and 12g of protein. The drink also provides 40 percent of the daily value for calcium. The grande cappuccino made with 2 percent milk contains 120 calories and 4.5g fat. The drink contains 10g of sugar. The caramel macciato is made with steamed milk and vanilla-flavored syrup, as well as espresso and caramel sauce. The grande macciato made with 2 percent milk contains 240 calories, 7g of fat and 31g of sugar.
Chocolate Drinks
Starbucks' hot chocolate with 2 percent milk and whipped cream contains 370 calories and 16g of fat. Nine grams of fat are saturated fats, and there are 40g of sugar in this drink. The drink contains 20 percent of the daily value for vitamin A, 45 percent of the daily value for vitamin C and 20 percent of the daily value for iron. The white hot chocolate drink with 2 percent milk contains 410 calories and 12g of fat. The drink contains 60g of sugar. The drink's contains 20 percent of the daily value for vitamin A and 60 percent of the daily value for iron.
Frappuccino Drinks
Starbucks' Frappuccino drinks can be customized to your preferences by choosing your milk, flavors and toppings. With whole milk, most of the grande Frappuccino drinks contain between 240 and 400 calories. The grande caffe vanilla Frappuccino blended drink made with whole milk contains 3g fat and 64g sugar. The drink contains 90mg of caffeine. The grande Caramel Frappuccino made with whole milk and whipped cream contains 59g of sugar, 15 percent of the daily value for calcium, and 95mg of caffeine. The grande coffee Frappuccino blended drink with whole milk contains 49g of sugar and 240 calories. The drink contains 95mg of caffeine. You can make these drinks lower-calorie by choosing nonfat milk and no whipped cream.
Tazo Teas
Starbucks offers a variety of Tazo teas available as hot teas, iced teas and tea lattes. The brewed hot teas generally contain no calories and no nutritional value. The grande shaken iced teas contain approximately 80 calories, nearly all of them coming from sugar. The grande shaken iced tea lemonades contain approximately 130 calories, mostly from sugar as well.
The grande tea lattes contain significantly more calories because of the milk content, as well as the sugar. They contain between 200 and 350 calories, depending on your choice of flavor and choice of milk, and between 31 and 55g of sugar. The grande iced tea lattes contain between 210 and 270 calories when made with 2 percent milk. Most of the calories from this drink come from the sugars, which run from 33g or 42g.
Starbucks Vivanno Smoothies
Starbucks' Vivanno smoothies are made of real fruit and contain whey protein and fiber powders. The Vivanno comes in chocolate, orange mango and strawberry flavors. The chocolate Vivanno made with 2 percent milk contains 270 calories and 30g of sugar. The chocolate flavor contains the highest amount of iron of the Vivanno drinks -- 15 percent of daily value for iron. The orange mango flavor contains 260 calories and 34g of sugar. The orange mango Vivanno is high in vitamin A, with 35 percent of the daily value. The strawberry Vivanno contains 280 calories and 39g of sugar. The drink contains 90 percent of the daily value for vitamin C. All of the Vivanno drinks contain between five and six grams of fiber and 15 to 18g of protein.
