Calories in Vodka and Orange Juice

The combination of vodka and orange juice is a classic drink known as a screwdriver. Alcohol provides 7 calories per gram, but no nutrition, while the calories in orange juice come primarily from carbohydrates, which contain 4 calories per gram.

    Calories

One screwdriver made with 1 ounce of 80-proof vodka and 8 ounces of orange juice contains about 174 calories. The vodka provides about 64 calories and the juice about 110 calories.

    Considerations

A vodka and orange juice contains less calories than many other mixed drinks made with a sour mix, sugared soda or fruit syrups. Although alcohol provides no nutritional value, 8 ounces of orange juice provides 124 milligrams of vitamin C, which is more than 100 percent the recommended daily allowance for both adult men and women. Orange juice is also a good source of potassium.

    Weight Management

If you are watching your weight, stick to just one drink, as the calories can add up quickly. The mixed drinks that are lowest in calories are those that use diet sodas, water or sugar-free tonic water for mixers.
