How to Cook an Omelette With a Microwave Omelette Pan

Omelets range from simple to extravagant, depending on the filling, but they don't have to be difficult to prepare. Cooking an omelet in the microwave is a simple and time-saving way to create this popular breakfast dish. A microwave omelet pan makes the process even easier, and saves you the trouble of flipping the omelet. Plus, because a microwave omelet pan is designed to allow for a quick release, cleanup is far simpler than when you cook an omelet on the stove top.

    Step 1

Prepare your omelet filling. For a basic omelet, this involves chopping about 2 tbsp. onion and 2 tbsp. bell pepper, and grating about 1 oz. cheese.

    Step 2

Break three eggs into a mixing bowl. Add a dash of salt and pepper to the eggs. Using a whisk, gently mix the eggs until the yolks and whites are combined.

    Step 3

Pour half of the egg mixture into each side of your microwave omelet pan.

    Step 4

Set the open microwave omelet pan into the microwave and heat on high for one minute and 30 seconds.

    Step 5

Open the oven and add the prechopped filling. Snap the lid shut and return the pan to the microwave. Heat on high for 30 seconds.

    Step 6

Remove your omelet pan from the microwave, open it and flip the cooked omelet onto a plate. Serve immediately. Microwaved omelets can deflate rapidly if left to sit before serving.

    Things You'll Need

    • 2 tbsp. onion

    • 2 tbsp. bell pepper

    • 1 oz. cheese

    • 3 eggs

    • Mixing bowl

    • Salt

    • Pepper

    • Whisk

    • Plate

    Tip

You can fill the omelet with anything you like, such as asparagus, meat, goat cheese, salmon or whatever leftovers you have on hand.

Some people prefer to saute the filling ingredients on the stove top or heat them in the microwave before preparing the omelet.

    Warning

Make sure you cook your eggs thorough. Both the omelet should be thoroughly set and reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees during cooking to lower the risk of food poisoning.

Eggs are high in cholesterol -- limit yourself to 3 whole eggs per week. Mix whole eggs with egg whites to make heart-healthy omelets.
