    Nutrition Information for McDonald's Frappes

McDonald's is a global chain that opened in 1955, and has since been in the forefront of the fast food industry. Besides burgers and fries, a variety of other options are available at McDonald's. The frappes are one of the newer products on the McDonalds menu. They are flavored and blended coffee drinks that pack a surprisingly large amount of calories and fat.

    Calories

The small frappe caramel and small frappe mocha drinks contain 450 calories in 12 fluid ounces -- equivalent to one and a half cups. The medium caramel frappe contains 550 calories and the medium mocha frappe contains 560 calories. The large of both varieties contains 680 calories. A large frappe from McDonalds contains more calories than an average meal on a 2,000-calorie diet.

    Fat

The small mocha and caramel frappes contain 20 grams of fat. The medium caramel frappe contains 29 grams of fat and the medium mocha frappe contains 24 grams of fat. The large caramel and mocha frappes contain 29 and 28 grams of fat, respectively. These drinks contain approximately 40 percent of their calories from fat. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans report indicates that fat intake should be maintained between 25 and 35 percent of total calories.

These drinks are also high in saturated fat. More than half of the fat in these drinks is saturated. The drinks contain over half of the amount of saturated fat that should be consumed in an entire day. Saturated fats increase cholesterol levels and can increase the risk of heart disease.

    Sugars

The small caramel frappe contains 57 grams of sugar, the medium contains 71 grams of sugar and the large contains 88 grams of sugar. The mocha frappes contain 56, 70 and 87 grams of sugar for the small, medium and large, respectively.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans report suggests that added sugar intake should be as limited as possible.

    Other Nutrients

The McDonald's frappes contain between 15 and 20 percent of the total daily value for vitamin A, an important vitamin that is important for proper eye function. The frappes also contain 20 to 35 percent of the daily value for calcium, a vitamin essential for bone health.

How They Fit Into Your Diet

The frappes all contain a large amount of calories, sugar and fat. To ensure that your calorie intake does not exceed your needs, buy a frappe only on occasion, not regularly. Choosing the small frappe rather than the medium or large will help to keep calorie, fat and sugar content much lower.
