How to Grind Rice in a Blender

Using rice flour is a cooking alternative for those suffering from a wheat allergy. According to the Kids with Food Allergies Foundation, for recipes, you can substitute 7/8 cups of rice flour for each cup of wheat flour. Use rice flour to bake muffins, cakes or bread. While rice flour is available for purchase, you can grind either white or brown rice in a blender to turn it into flour. Brown rice tends to have a stronger flavor compared to white rice, which tends to be grainier.

    Step 1

Clean your rice by placing it in a strainer and running cold water over it.

    Step 2

Transfer the rice into a large bowl and cover completely with water.

    Step 3

Soak the rice for 1 hour.

    Step 4

Drain the rice by pouring it into a strainer.

    Step 5

Place a layer of paper towels on the counter.

    Step 6

Pour the rice onto the paper towels.

    Step 7

Allow the rice to dry on the paper towel for up to four hours or until the pieces of the rice fail to stick to each other.

    Step 8

Put up to 2 cups of the rice into the blender at a time.

    Step 9

Use the "Grind" setting and blend for approximately 1 minute or until you obtain the desired consistency. Stop the blender every 30 seconds to check the consistency of the rice.

    Step 10

Keep your ground rice in a tightly sealed plastic container in a cool dry location. Ground rice lasts up to six months.
