Calories in Ginger Beer

Made with ginger root, sugar and carbonated water, ginger beer is typically served as a non-alcoholic beverage similar to ginger ale. Some ginger beers, however, do contain alcohol. Because both alcohol and sugar calories are void of nutrition beyond the caloric energy, consume these drinks in moderation.

Calorie counts vary by product. One brand of non-alcoholic ginger beer contains about 16 calories per ounce, or 128 calories in an 8-ounce glass. Another brand contains about 14 calories per ounce, or about 110 calories per 8 ounces. One brand of alcoholic ginger beer contains 255 calories per 500 milliliters, which is about 17 ounces. That works out to about 15 calories per ounce.
