How to Put a Tattoo in a Hidden Place

Not everyone who has a tattoo wants to show off the artwork in public. A tattoo is permanent, and considering that the tattoo may be visible in the future will help you to determine the placement of your tattoo. A part of your body, such as your stomach, may be considered a hidden place during the winter, but during the summer or when on vacation, the tattoo may be visible to others. Your lifestyle may change, resulting in the tattoo being visible. For example, an upper thigh tattoo may be visible if you start to cycle and wear short bottoms while riding.

    Step 1

Determine the subject matter and size for your tattoo. This will help you determine where on your body the tattoo can fit. For example, a star the size of a quarter can be placed on your hip for concealment by clothing or a swimsuit. A star the size of an orange on your hip will be difficult to conceal while wearing a swimsuit.

    Step 2

Print out a picture of your tattoo design. Draw the design or ask a tattoo artist to design a tattoo if you want a custom design. Cut around the outline of the design to remove the rest of the paper.

    Step 3

Tape the design onto a hidden spot on your body. Your daily wardrobe will likely cover your hips, ribs, upper thighs, upper arms and stomach. Cover the design with clothing to ensure that a shirt, shorts or pants conceal the tattoo design while wearing clothing.

    Step 4

Change the location of the tattoo if the tattoo is visible when wearing a swimsuit, short sleeves or a skirt. Tattoos behind ears are visible if you wear your hair up or receive a short haircut.

    Step 5

Take the tattoo design to a tattoo artist. Ask the tattoo artist for a private room or to provide screens during the application of your tattoo if you are removing clothing to receive the artwork.

    Tip

    Warning

Never place a tattoo in a visible spot if the tattoo will affect your position in a workplace.
