    Vicks Inhaler Ingredients

Vicks products are common over-the-counter medications used to treat common cold and flu symptoms, such as sore throat, fever, runny nose and sneezing, aches and pains, head congestion, chest congestion and cough. The Vicks VapoInhaler, however, is specifically used to relieve nasal congestion due to a cold, hay fever or other respiratory allergies, and sinusitis. As with all medications that you are taking, you should be aware of their ingredients and effects.

    Levmetamfetamine (L-methamphetamine)

The main active ingredient in Vicks VapoInhaler is levmetamfetamine, also known as L-methamphetamine (50mg). Levmetamfetamine is a nasal decongestant that works by reducing the size of the blood vessels in the nose that are causing congestion, or a stuffy nose. Because these vessels are now smaller, they will not block nasal passages as much and will make breathing easier. Side effects of this ingredient include temporary burning, stinging, sneezing and increased nasal discharge.

    Inactive Ingredients

Inactive ingredients do not affect symptoms, but aid in ease of use. In Vicks VapoInhaler, the inactive ingredients are bornyl acetate, camphor, lavender oil, menthol and methyl salicylate. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, consult your doctor before using this medication.

    Caution With Vick VapoInhaler

Vicks VapoInhaler can cause rebound nasal congestion. Rebound nasal congestion is the worsening of nasal congestion after discontinuing the use of a medication that shrinks blood vessels. Do not use this inhaler for more than seven days. If you abruptly discontinue the use of this medication after seven or more days of use, you may worsen your nasal congestion.
